What is CEVA and how can you get
involved?
WHAT IS CEVA?
CEVA stands for Columbia Empire
Volleyball Association. We are the regional
organization of USA Volleyball. USA Volleyball has
over 40 regions throughout the United States; CEVA
represents Oregon and SW Washington.
CEVA offers playing opportunities for
Junior Girls, Junior Boys, Adults and Outdoor
Volleyball. In order
to participate in any CEVA function you must be a member
of the region.

JUNIOR GIRLS VOLLEYBALL
At the junior girls level, we offer a
season that runs from November (tryout dates)
through the Volleyball Festival and Junior Nationals
ending the first week in July (actual team schedules and
length of playing season is determined by each team and
club). Junior girls have the opportunity to try out and
join a club within our region. Through joining a club
and CEVA, the athlete is also a member of USA
Volleyball.
Picking a club is a family decision and takes some
research. Although they must abide by general CEVA
rules, each club is a little different in the way they
run their organization and train their athletes.
Some of the common questions to ask a club director are:
-What is your club mission statement and general program philosophy?
(i.e.: To win? To
improve? To have fun?)
-What is the coaching experience of each coach?
-What is the coaching education philosophy of the club?
-What age groups do you have teams for?
-When and where will practices be; are additional
training sessions available?
-How many tournaments, when and how far will we travel to play?
-What is the club's Philosophy on participating in other
sports/school engagements?
-How will information be distributed?
-Does each team within a club fund itself or are the
monies shared between teams?
-Are the requirements of fund-raiser clearly spelled out
as to participation, distribution (to all on the team or
to those who work) and accountability for funds, etc.?
-What will the expenses be?
-Do they have an itemization of what is being paid by
your fees? Some clubs charge one fee upfront for the
season and some charge and initial fee with monthly
payments. Some clubs use fund-raisers to fund their
teams and some teams use a combination of the above.
Choosing a volleyball club is serious business and a
family decision. It is a commitment in time and money as
well as individual commitment to a club for the duration
of the season. Spending a little time researching your
options and opportunities may save you from a
frustrating season.

JUNIOR BOYS VOLLEYBALL
We are currently trying to rebuild our
Junior Boys program. At this time, we do not have
a regular season. CEVA's goal is to offer playing
opportunities for boys while local boys teams and clubs
within our region grow. We plan to have open gyms
through the winter and early spring where boys can come out and play; no experience needed. These
dates will be posted on the
Junior Boys
homepage.
The CEVA office has
started a database containing contact information for
all boys and parents of boys who are interested in
playing volleyball. Please contact the CEVA office
to have your name added to the list and receive emails
about playing opportunities for Junior Boys.
In addition to our open
gyms, there are more opportunities to play. Some
clubs within the region are interested in starting boys teams this
year and their information will also be posted on the
Junior Boys
homepage. Teams can also be formed by coaches or
parents not currently affiliated with a CEVA club.
Please contact the office for more information about
starting a team.
Junior Boys are also
allowed to play on Men's teams. Boys can play at
the B and BB level with any team that needs players.
The commissioner must approve the participation of a boy
on a Men's team at the A or AA level. If you are
interested in playing on a Men's team, the team contacts
from the 2004 season are available through the link below.
2007 Men's Team Reps
Junior Boys may also
play in our Outdoor and Reverse Coed 4's tournaments.
These tournaments are not meant for beginners so please
call the office if you have questions about
participation. Information about these tournaments
will be available on the
Adult and
Outdoor
homepages.
ADULT VOLLEYBALL OPPORTUNITIES
At the adult level, we are currently
running a season from the Friendship tournaments in
December through the Regional Championships in May.
These tournaments are for men's and women's 6's teams. A
tournament schedule is available on the
Adult
homepage.
The Adult committee has
created a list-serv to better connect players looking
for teams and teams looking for players. For more
information about the CEVAadult list-serv click "HERE" You are also welcome to
contact the Men's and Women's Adult reps from last year
to see if they need any players for the upcoming season.
2007 Men's Team Reps
2007 Women's Team Reps
In addition to our traditional "6's" season we also
welcome individuals or organizations to host CEVA
sanctioned tournaments or leagues. These
tournaments or leagues can be any time of the year and
any format: 6's, 4's, coed, indoor, grass, sand, etc.
The CEVA insures the tournament and allows the
tournament organizer the flexibility and imagination to
plan their own tournament. Please contact the CEVA
office for more information.
